Phoenix Children’s Home only accepts planned admissions where residential care is regarded as a positive option from which to achieve permanency as defined in the child’s care plan. Children and young people will therefore be consulted about their admission and should clearly understand what their care plan is trying to achieve and how staff in their placement will go about supporting them in this endeavour.
Where possible admissions will therefore follow a clearly defined procedure that meets a number of the following criteria: -
¨ Aged between 10 – 16 years old at the time of referral.
¨ Offers placement of medium to long term stays.
¨ Must have a Care Plan.
¨ Must be accompanied by a social worker and where possible a member of their family or responsible adult.
¨ A history of exclusion or problems attending / achieving in mainstream or special schools.
¨ A history of neglect, physical, emotional, or sexual abuse.
¨ Emotional, social, and behavioural difficulties.
¨ Minimum involvements in delinquency or criminal behaviour.
¨ A number of placement breakdowns including substitute 'family' placements residential schools, and children's homes.
